Buy disposable gloves - high quality and inexpensive

They come in different colors, shapes and sizes for a wide variety of purposes: protective gloves. For example, they protect the wearer from viruses and bacteria or toxic or corrosive substances. Other gloves protect against heat or cuts. There are different types of gloves for different areas of application. Protective gloves in accordance with EN 374 are part of the personal protective equipment (PPE) that is required by law for self-protection when working with potentially hazardous activities.

Buying disposable gloves: What to look out for

1st material

Disposable gloves can be made of different materials with different properties. The most common materials are nitrile, vinyl, latex and polyethylene (PE).

MaterialProperties
Nitrile
  • Water-repellent and resistant to many chemicals, especially oils
  • Permeable to many solvents, such as acetone or dichloromethane
  • Alternative to latex
  • Protection against microbes and contact with pathogens
  • High stitch and abrasion resistance
Vinyl
  • Alternative for a latex allergy
  • Water-repellent and relatively inexpensive
  • However, it is not very robust and therefore usually only has a short service life
  • Suitable for non-hazardous materials
Latex
  • Allergy risk
  • Robust and durable material, suitable for handling sharp objects
  • Water-repellent and resistant to many acids and alkalis
  • Protection against contact with pathogens
  • No protection against solvents
Polyethylene (PE)
  • Tasteless and odorless, food-safe, resistant to oils and fats
  • Alternative for a latex allergy
  • Available in various degrees of density, usually hardly a perfect fit

Nitrile gloves are water-repellent and resistant to many chemicals, especially oils. However, they are permeable to many solvents, such as acetone or dichloromethane. Nitrile is a good alternative for people with latex allergies and offers good protection against microbes. Nitrile gloves, for example, also offer protection in contact with pathogens, food processing, cleaning work, beauty treatments or tattooing.

Vinyl is another alternative for people with a latex allergy. It is water-repellent and relatively inexpensive. However, it is not considered to be very robust and therefore usually has a short lifespan.

Latex is now used less frequently due to its allergic effect. It is a robust and durable material that is also suitable for handling sharp objects. It is also water-repellent and resistant to many acids and alkalis. However, it offers no protection against solvents.

Polyethylene is made from crystal-clear films. Compared to the materials already mentioned, however, it is not elastic and tends to be placed loosely over the hand. Although the material is not very robust, it is very inexpensive.

2. standards

There are numerous standards to which the manufacture of gloves is subject. These include the ISO 13485 standard, which contains the requirements for comprehensive quality management for the design and manufacture of medical devices. The international EN ISO 21420:2020 standard applies specifically to protective gloves. It replaces the previous EN 420 standard and covers the general requirements for protective gloves, such as performance, comfort and harmlessness.

The EN 455 and EN 374 standards include clear regulations for disposable medical gloves. The EN 455 standard (1-4) deals with various criteria for disposable gloves and their impermeability, physical properties, biological evaluation and durability. EN 374 (1-5), on the other hand, regulates chemical resistance to chemicals and microorganisms.

Whether the gloves are flawless and impermeable is tested with the so-called AQL value using a water impermeability test. This AQL value (Accepted Quality Level) is set at different levels, but is 1.5 for disposable gloves for examinations.

3. categories

Protective gloves are divided into 3 categories.

Category I: Minimal risks - For tasks with low protection requirements, e.g. protection against dirt, gardening, mild cleaning agents

Category II: Medium risks - For protection against mechanical hazards, for example

Category III: High risks - To protect against irreversible damage or fatal hazards. E.g. due to chemicals, heat, cold, radiation, electricity

Chemical or examination gloves according to EN 374 are only assigned to category III.

4th types

Chemical gloves according to EN 374 (1-5), as used from protection level 2 in laboratories or in the healthcare sector, are divided into three different types:

Type A: Gloves meet at least performance level 2 and are resistant to at least six test chemicals from the list of 18 tested chemicals.

Type B: Gloves also fulfill at least performance level 2 and are resistant to at least three test chemicals from the list of 18 tested chemicals.

Type C: Gloves meet at least performance level 1 and are resistant to at least one test chemical from the list of 18 tested chemicals.

5. influencing factors due to chemicals

Various factors influence the protection provided by gloves against chemicals. Chemicals are tested for these factors as specified in EN 374:

PenetrationThis is where a solid, liquid or gaseous chemical moves through tiny holes, seams or other imperfections. The water impermeability test plays an important role here. The associated AQL value must be 1.5 for examination gloves.

PermeationPermeation is the diffusion of a chemical through intact glove material, i.e. it moves through the material to the underlying skin. A breakthrough time is specified for permeation, which indicates how much time the chemical needs to move completely through the material.

  • Level 1 ≥ 10 min.
  • Level 2 ≥ 30 min.
  • Level 3 ≥ 60 min.
  • Level 4 ≥ 120 min.
  • Level 5 ≥ 240 min.
  • Level 6 ≥ 480 min.

DegradationThe glove material deteriorates physically due to contact with a chemical. For example, the material can shrink, swell, become stiffer or otherwise change its structure.

6. areas of application

Disposable gloves are not only used in the medical sector, but also in the food and cosmetics industries. They offer comprehensive protection and enable hygienic work in every sector. The gloves are available in different colors, although black is not usually found in the medical sector, but rather in the food industry or the catering sector.

AttentionProtective gloves are used especially in laboratories or in areas of the healthcare sector where there are high protection requirements. For activities that are assigned to certain protection levels, there are certain requirements that the gloves must meet. These activities include contact with certain biological substances that pose a health risk. For example, working with dangerous pathogens in laboratories or clinics. In these areas, chemical protective gloves in accordance with EN 374 are used, which fall under the above-mentioned category III. As these are disposable products, the gloves must be changed after a single use. The protective gloves we offer do not provide protection against cuts or heat and are therefore not suitable for such use
