Description
Overview
The HaseMed Bedpan with Lid is a lightweight, shatterproof plastic bedpan designed for discreet, hygienic toileting support for bed-bound and mobility-limited patients. Moulded in a single piece of ivory-coloured medical plastic with a smooth, rounded rim and a 31 cm outer diameter, it gives caregivers a practical, quiet-to-handle alternative to traditional stainless steel bedpans in hospitals, nursing homes and home care settings.
Every detail is built around comfortable positioning and fast turnaround between uses: the contoured basin cradles the body, the integrated straight handle with hanging hole keeps hands clear of the contents during transport, and the snug-fitting lid closes the pan for discreet carrying and odour control. The non-porous plastic surface wipes clean in seconds and withstands the disinfectants used in professional care routines.
Highlights & Benefits
- Lightweight and shatterproof: Robust medical-grade plastic stays intact if dropped and is noticeably lighter than stainless steel, reducing strain for caregivers handling the pan repeatedly through a shift.
- Lid included for discretion: The flat round lid with recessed finger grip seats firmly on the rim to contain odours and prevent splashes while the pan is carried to the sluice room or bathroom.
- Long integrated handle: A straight moulded handle with hanging hole keeps the caregiver's hand well away from the basin and lets the pan be hung up to drain after cleaning.
- Ergonomic 31 cm shape: The rounded, low-profile rim slides under bedridden patients with minimal lifting, supporting safer repositioning for both patient and caregiver.
- Non-porous, easy to disinfect: Smooth ivory plastic surfaces inside and out resist staining, wipe clean quickly and tolerate standard surface disinfectants used in clinical environments.
- Quiet in use: Plastic handling is less clattery than metal alternatives, supporting a calmer atmosphere on wards and in home bedrooms, especially at night.
Use Cases
- Hospital wards: A reliable, budget-friendly bedpan for general and geriatric wards where quiet handling and fast turnover between patients matter.
- Nursing and residential care homes: Everyday toileting support for residents with limited mobility, dementia or post-fall restrictions that keep them in bed.
- Home nursing: Comfortable assistance for family members or patients recovering at home from surgery, fractures or long-term illness.
- Post-operative recovery: Gentle use when getting out of bed is not yet possible after abdominal, orthopaedic or cardiovascular procedures.
- Palliative and hospice care: A discreet, light-to-handle option that preserves dignity for bedridden patients and minimises disturbance.
- Travel and emergency backup: A practical standby for caravans, motorhomes and power outages when a toilet is not immediately reachable.

Application
Position the bedpan with care to keep the patient comfortable and the contents contained. Work slowly, communicate each step and keep a second pair of hands available whenever possible.
- Prepare: Wear disposable gloves, fold back the top sheet and place an absorbent pad under the patient's hips.
- Position the patient: Ask them to bend their knees and lift their hips, or gently roll them onto their side so the pan can be slid into place.
- Place the pan: Slide the rounded rim under the buttocks with the integrated handle pointing toward the foot of the bed, then guide the patient back into a supine position.
- Support comfort: Raise the head of the bed slightly if tolerated and offer a call bell or stay within reach.
- Remove and close: Ask the patient to lift their hips again, withdraw the pan by the handle, place the lid on top and carry the closed pan to the sluice room or toilet.
- Aftercare: Offer hand hygiene and skin care, change soiled linen and document output if clinically relevant.
Cleaning & Care
Rinse the bedpan in a bedpan washer or under running water after each use, then clean with a mild detergent and an approved surface disinfectant. Pay particular attention to the inside of the basin, the underside of the rim and the recess under the lid grip. Avoid abrasive scouring pads or harsh solvents, as these can dull the smooth ivory surface over time. Hang the pan from the handle hole to air-dry before it is returned to storage, and replace the lid only once both parts are fully dry.
Important Notes
Inspect the bedpan and lid before each use and remove from service if you notice cracks, deep scratches or a warped rim. The pan is intended as a toileting aid and should not be used as a general basin for food, medication or wound irrigation. Always follow your facility's hygiene protocol and local guidance on handling body fluids.
